ABSTRACT
Roysten Abel, theatre director and playwright, is credited with being the first to devise and direct a widely successful contemporised version of Othello in India; this won the Fringe First award at Edinburgh in 1999. He then turned the play into an art film, In Othello (2003), directed by himself. He has subsequently turned to devised theatre with folk musicians.
