ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces the reader to the analysis of Qur'anic discourse in terms of European text linguistics. It discusses a macro text–level analysis of Qur'anic discourse prototypical features. The chapter focuses on the context and co-text functions within the macro text and their impact on the macro level due to the occurrence of specific lexical items. It deals with Aristotle's modes of persuasion. The chapter provides an in-depth account of ellipsis as a linguistic and rhetorical feature of Qur'anic discourse. It investigates the ways in which Qur'anic themes and relations are linked and used to achieve effective communication with the reader. The chapter examines the Qur'anic text at the micro level and at the macro level. It discusses how the grammatical and lexical elements can form semantic connections between Qur'anic text components.
