ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The majority of research on media representations of Black womanhood focuses on the images with minimal attention given to the accuracy of such images and their impact on societal views and treatment of Black women. Collective agency is needed to challenge the representations of Black women in the media. Organizations like Black Girls Rock! and My Black is Beautiful have successfully used media to showcase the brilliance of Black women and the work that they have done in communities around the world. Affirming Black womanhood on an international stage, Black Girls Rock! Award Show honors Black women who not only defy and redefine the notions of womanhood. With awards such as Change Agent, Social Humanitarian, and Living Legend, Black Girls Rock! Award Show rightfully recognizes and celebrates the insurmountable gifts of Black womanhood to family, community, and the world.
