ABSTRACT

This chapter explains about what it takes to jump off a person's plateau and move to the next level of their career. This does not only apply to screenwriters who have found Oscar-level success. Keep in mind that success is a term a person will define for themselves. And that definition will change as a person's career evolves. In Yakin's words, since A Price Above Rubies, he is had a "zero batting average" when it comes to getting his independent films produced. If that were the yardstick he used to measure his success, then yes, he'd come up short. But if his yardstick had notches for profitable studio films that he wrote and/or directed, or for 12-year-old boys who were forever touched by Remember the Titans, there would be no denying his success. And being prepared to take that leap involves a commitment to taking risks.
