ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the animal habitat theme as artists, then take on the role of teachers working in schools through the university's Art Reach program, and ultimately become researchers forging expansive opportunities when they analyse their A-ha! teaching and learning. It also explores these learning possibilities, and introduces the A-ha! project for pre-service teachers to explore in their Studio Arts subject, and then teach as an Art Reach' experience in a local primary school. The pre-service teachers head off to a local primary school to run an Art Reach program. The A-ha! project is in line with key concepts in the Australian curriculum for the arts, which positions art as a post-formal experience enabling connection to environment, place, culture, and each other. It engages multiple techniques and genres, and ensures participants explore their own art making through locally derived content while also linking into the cultural domain.
