ABSTRACT

Qualitative research covers a broad methodology, encompassing many different research methods. Many engage a systematic analysis of textual data obtained via interviews, surveys, focus groups and diary entries. These approaches can be particularly useful in obtaining culturally specific information about the values, interests, behaviours, opinions of groups in society. This chapter provides a broad overview of some of these methods, and reflects on issues and challenges which may arise in respect of sampling, recording data, analysing and generalising results, and research ethics.
