Sibling Grief and Its Effect on the Family System

The family, as a system, has received little attention in the study of sibling grief. The majority of research focuses on the grief of surviving siblings or the post-loss relationship between surviving siblings and parents. In this chapter, we draw from literature on Family Systems Theory to broaden the focus to the family level. For simplicity’s sake, families of bereaved minor siblings will be the focus of the chapter.
