ABSTRACT

As elaborated in Chapter 5 , China’s claims could be divided to three dimensions, the islands sovereignty contribution, the Exclusive Economic Zoning, and the dash-line claim. 1 The dash-line claim has long attracted scholarly and public attention, but no corresponding studies of the numerous islands scattered around the South China Sea. However, a more delicate reading of the voluminous islands and islets is justifi ed, in the sense that their different roots have actually posted them under different contexts that require different strategies and negotiation agenda.
