ABSTRACT

When the core business of an organisation is known to exert high psychological and emotional demand on its employees, the ability of staff to respond adaptively to that demand becomes central to effective performance. This chapter focuses primarily on organisational resilience, drawing on both empirical and anecdotal evidence that supports resilience-building practices. The biggest challenge for those charged with running forensic organisations is having the time, resources, and focus to consider the integration of resilience-based practices in what are already highly demanding times. Many forensic organisations are publicly funded and already operate under tremendously challenging conditions, and many private companies have won contracts to run forensic services based on financial frugality. Providing services to forensic clients is usually the key focus. Post-event recovery plans emphasise the resilience and well-being of staff and should work alongside operational recovery plans.
