ABSTRACT
The significance of intergenerational ties in everyday life and in the construction of citizenship in Italy stands out as a necessary and central key to understanding both the lives of Italian lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people, who often remain economically dependent on their parents well into their adulthood, and the politics of the Italian LGBTmovement. On17May 2010, on the occasion of theAnti-HomophobiaDay, the President of the Italian Republic received a delegation of LGBT organisations. In a country where lesbian and gay relationships are still denied any form of legal acknowledgement, this was generally perceived as an important sign of institutional recognition for LGBT organisations. On that occasion, Associazione Genitori di Omosessuali (AGEDO), the national association of families and friends of lesbian and gay people, acted as one of the official spokespersons for the Italian LGBT movement. The importance of this organisation within the Italian LGBT movement says much about the general significance of intergenerational ties in the construction of sexual citizenship in Italy.
