ABSTRACT

Historically and geographically, Korean culture has been not a simple result of a mechanical process but a new result of physical incorporation of different cultures. The Korean People’s Army was the result of an acculturation process involving the Soviet Union, China, and Korea. The Korean People’s Army was influenced by the Soviet material culture, Chinese cultural influence, and Kim Il Sung’s Korean vision for the Korean People’s Army. This chapter explains Kim Il Sung’s vision for the Korean People’s Army by examining how three lifelong events of Kim Il Sung shaped his vision for the Korean People’s Army.
