ABSTRACT
This chapter explains how China influenced the Korean People’s Army by examining Sino-North Korean relations from the 1930s to the Chinese Civil War. Throughout this period, Chinese and Korean communists shared one revolutionary identity. Because of this, China and North Korea had a long-term personal friendship while the relationship between the Soviet Union and North Korea was a temporary business partnership. Because Korean veterans from the Chinese Civil War (the former Korean Volunteer Army) became the majority of the Korean People’s Army, their social and cultural contributions to the Korean People’s Army and their influence were natural and strong.
