ABSTRACT

Many new vocational courses equivalent to General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) started in schools in around 2002, but this was something people never went in for. Instead they stuck to the more traditional curriculum, including every child doing a humanities subject and a language. This was a mistake, as the traditional curriculum did not suit lots of the children, and people should have taken more risks with the curriculum. The change of government in 2010 was not a happy time for those of us in education. Policies introduced under the Coalition were more difficult to manage and caused great anxiety. The Local Education Authority, who had always been so supportive, lost most of their funding and subsequently most of their personnel. The Ofsted framework continued to change, and the exams criteria changed, making it more difficult for many pupils to gain the qualifications they needed to move forward.
