ABSTRACT

Skitch is a camera-based application that allows the user to take a photograph or capture a screenshot before annotating and sending on. There are the familiar features, which include cropping images, adding colour, outlining shapes or creating text, all of which work using the touchscreen without the need for a stylus. Within the classroom the application is used to create collaborative documents, make notes directly onto a piece of research or provide feedback for a classmate. In order to keep a copy of the image, it is important to save it before closing the application, and the alternative is to attach a copy to an email and forward. Skitch can be used in conjunction with other applications, for example, the collaging app PicCollage or the QR code reader scanner. Skitch has the potential to be a useful tool for providing formative feedback to children using the text annotations to suggest where improvements might be made in a piece of writing.
