ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the forces affecting success and failure in commercial world and details the salient literature relating to the evolution of business strategy. It discusses the strategic planning and implications for organisations seeking competitive advantage. The chapter deals with some of the thrusts in strategic management and implications for Chief executive officers (CEO). It also describes effect of organisational context on strategy development and organisational success. The world advances in terms of scope, scale and speed. Alternatively, when CEOs and general managers actively select a knowledge management approach that supports a coherent strategy, both the company and its customers benefit. The design school adopts a deliberate approach to setting objectives and goals, formulating targets and metrics, and allocating resources. Miller and Cardinal refer to the debate of the value of strategic planning in the management literature. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
