ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the influence of ethics on business and society and considers the dilemma of ethical behaviour. It shows some key issues of ethical decision-making, explores the trends in ethics and evaluates what is meant by the term ethical value. The chapter explores the fascinating dilemma, and considers the opportunities of corporate social performance. Business people ought to take the moral high road, as ethical behaviour has proven to be profitable in the long run. There are two main approaches to measure corporate social performance (CSP). One is normative, which is to say that it includes a predisposition of the ideal ethical behaviour for a business, while the other is a structural framework geared towards documenting different aspects of CSP. As the business environment becomes more complex, inappropriate contracts can lead to exploitation and oppression. While good business behaviour is also worth understanding, it gets less attention in the media.
