ABSTRACT
This chapter explores how food system governance has been addressed in academic publications since the world food price crisis of 2007. It presents an overview of the interactions between global environmental change and food security. The chapter reviews an agenda for conceptual and empirical research on food system governance on the basis of this assessment. It presents some general characteristics of the selected literature in terms of years of publication, disciplines of the journals, country focus and methodologies used. For this purpose, the chapter conducts a two-step systematic literature review. The first step is focused on food systems and second step on the governance of food systems. Some scholars emphasize the need to incorporate different kinds of interconnectedness in the conceptualization of food systems thinking, or food systems for global environmental change. To understand the dynamics and changes of the food system, Ericksen distinguishes basic constituents of the food system and the drivers of socio-economic features and global environmental change.
