ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some of the non-technical aspects of studios and personnel which may still have a great bearing on the recording process. It discusses the needs of different personalities and human factors. In general, if the objective aspects of a studio design are not up to standard it is less likely that the studio will satisfy its subjective requirements. There are musicians who arrive at a studio dressed very casually, and there are musicians who arrive at a studio in their full stage regalia. Recording engineers and producers are also artistes, so anything that makes their working lives easier will also contribute, by allowing them to spend more time in an appropriate mood, and thus concentrating more on their performance rather than on the equipment. Ultimately, a recording engineer will choose to work on whatever loudspeakers and in whatever conditions are conducive to achieving the desired results.
