ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses career possibilities in sport and exercise psychology. Graduates of sport and exercise psychology undergraduate and master's degrees – like graduates of any psychology degree – have skills and attributes employers find valuable in addition to having knowledge about human behaviour. To help explore career possibilities in the field, the chapter discusses the possible employment settings and discusses possibilities in other countries. It also examines the various roles and specializations in the field. Some of the sport and exercise psychology-related employment opportunities include being employed by sports teams and bodies; in private practice; by health, exercise, and medical-related organizations; in education institutions; and by corporate and professional development businesses. The UK belongs to a small select group of countries where sport and exercise psychology training and practice is regulated by professional statutory and regulatory bodies. In many countries around the world, sport and exercise psychology training, service delivery, and titles are not regulated or protected by law.
