ABSTRACT

The Danish food industry is one of the strongest and most innovative in Europe and is well embedded in the national innovation system. Recently, new network constructs have emerged. Due to the fact that the home market is limited and the knowledge base highly integrated, and therefore relatively homogeneous, large companies increasingly search for markets and knowledge elsewhere. Consequently, there is a growing push towards internationalization among lead firms in the Danish food industry. This push generates corresponding new strategies for the internationalization of markets, production and, increasingly, innovation. However, little is known about internationalization of innovation in the food industry and the impact of these processes on the broader economy.
