ABSTRACT

In this chapter you’ll hear about an intervention to get young people into work and a response to the question “why focus on youth employment?“ Building on successful developments of apprenticeship schemes in Local Authorities (LAs) attention shifted from apprenticeship targets to quality and partnership working to support our young society. Here, one of these schemes is described and good practice shared to highlight the positive impact on the employability of local young people.

A work psychology model of evaluation was used (TOTADO) (Birdi, 2006) that examines both benefits for the LA and local society and points to future research on a public–private partnership model to scale impact.
