ABSTRACT

Plot is the development of events and actions that move a story along. A good screen story focuses on a character's journey. Therefore, character arc and plot need to be totally interconnected. Events are the things that happen in the story. Events are the things that happen in the story. Aristotle's most important advice: a story needs to be about one thing. An event can be anything: the first day at school, a birthday, a first kiss, an argument, a promotion, an interview, a love-at-first-sight meeting and the list is endless. Concentrating on moving a protagonist from event to event will help give a sense of motion to the screen story. Events illuminate character and plot. The audience has a relatively short time to get to know a character, learn of his needs and desires, learn what physical and emotional obstacles are keeping him from accomplishing his goals and emotionally connect with the outcome of the movie.
