ABSTRACT
In Sardis, Ephesus and Dascylium remains of sanctuaries and Mazdaic cults have been found (Cumont 1929: 135 and 275 n. 29). Iranian penetration thus extended some way into the West of Anatolia, which enabled a Lydian like Xanthus to gather information on the religion of the new masters of Asia.
