ABSTRACT

The author has grown fond of creating digital costume project folders in a shared Internet file. He compiles information in Dropbox, Google Docs, Pinterest, etc. for access on the go; they all have apps that are easy to install on iPhone and Android phones. In this chapter, he looks at some useful nuts and bolts, and uses as a sample his design work for Kiss Me Kate produced by the Lyric Stage Company of Boston. Before telling a character's story in a costume sketch, there are preparatory steps. One of the most valuable tools that he learned during his school years at NYU included the importance of creating a Costume Bible. A costume Bible is an invaluable book created by the costume designer for a show, movie, etc. In more professional theatres, the assistant designer makes and updates the Bible. It is a compilation of ALL paperwork and information needed to costume that particular show or event.
