ABSTRACT

One benefit of using digital software and Web-sharing tools is that projects get instantly archived during the process. Web folders become the record keeping, giving easy access to files when people need them. Websites and Photo slideshows can be shared via a link. The result is a presentation that is accessible, practical and convenient for sharing one's work. Many producers and directors can preview the work of a designer/technician from a website, flash drive, or email PDF file, and this can lead to interviews. Designing costumes for a film is a 24/7 proposition and the turnaround time is fast. Due to the speedy nature of the tasks, compiling materials digitally and across multiple platforms is beneficial to effective communication and collaboration in film. In 2009, the author had the privilege to work on a PBS documentary. He used the digital approach and, in the process, he created a digital portfolio to use as a reference in future projects.
