ABSTRACT

In sum, our results imply that research on fatherhood, in principle, need not be restricted to fathers’ perspectives but should include mothers’ perspectives too. Thereby, the conceptualization of what a good father is like from fathers’ as well as mothers’ points of view can help researchers to reveal negotiation processes within couples. The consideration of different stages of family development is an additional demand for fatherhood research because, as shown in the present study, mothers’ evaluations of fatherhood are based on different aspects as the family develops.
