ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses school-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and the key components of College and Career Readiness (CCR) and how it can work within MTSS, as well as through special education transition policies and procedures. It describes the role of CCR in special and general education. The chapter presents a six-part organizing framework of CCR that promotes academic preparation of students with disabilities by aligning with broader school-wide efforts. CCR encompasses the skills and experiences that help ensure success of students in their future. The areas most relevant to CCR in special education is transition planning, including several key components centered on the development of an Individual Education Program (IEP) and Summary of Performance. Teachers can assist students in learning about their unique learning needs, and how best to advocate for necessary accommodations to access the general education curriculum. Accommodations should be specified within the IEP document.
