ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses what is the importance of developing knowledge within the domain of social work? It also addresses what is understood by evidence-based practice? The chapter examines what is the difference between a standard, a directive and a recommendation? It also examines what techniques are employed in the practical research method? The chapter explores what evidence is known to support the practical research method? The practical research method is used in social work when knowledge about any aspect of the social work practice is lacking. Legal recognition of the social work profession comes closer if there is more evidence of the effectiveness of social work. The social work profession is, for the aforementioned reasons, not suitable for developing and introducing treatment protocols at a session level. The chapter describes the techniques utilized by social workers to conduct research that contributes to enhancing the quality of life of groups of people.
