ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the first equestrian context through which I consider various ways in which human-horse and human-human relationships develop in the horse world. The yard is the ‘home’ of horses, and so provides an important space for the performance of both interspecies and intraspecies interactions. Drawing on a range of ethnographic data I consider the ways in which the yard acts as an important site through which to consider the performance of routine interactions and the development of relationships within the horse world.
