ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how to prevent relapse back into one's old sexually addictive behaviours. One's relapse prevention plan will be unique to him. It will need to reflect his own distinctive needs and his own specific patterns of behaviour. Although there are overlaps and many commonalities, no two relapse prevention plans are the same. For those of one who have behaviours that threaten the safety of others and that could incur criminal penalties, relapse prevention is crucial to his own wellbeing and to the wellbeing of others. He should, when thinking about his relapse prevention plan, consider any specific changes that might make an immediate difference. The anxiety can be caused by internal memories or by negative interpretations of the actions and comments of others. Anxiety is usually cognitively based on an overestimation of future dangers and an underestimation of one's personal strength and resilience.
