ABSTRACT

Keesha Ewers, PhD, ARNP-C, FNP, has been in the medical field for over 30 years; her research has focused primarily on female sexual desire. She is a board-certified functional and Ayurvedic medical practitioner, a psychotherapist, energy worker, yoga teacher, and an Andean mesa carrier and Huachumera (plant medicine healer) who works with sacred plant medicine during retreats with her students in various parts of the world. She is founder and host of the Healthy YOU! Radio Network. In 2015, she created the Academy for Integrative Medicine, which integrates various specialties of medicine, psychotherapy, and Eastern philosophy-“so women can stop falling through the cracks created by these separate domains in our current health care system.” Her Integrative Medicine certification program is designed to help professionals use functional medicine, sexology, Ayurveda, energy work, and psychotherapy techniques to find and fix the root causes of clients’ energetic depletion. Her pursuit of answers has taken her around the world, to learn from traditional healers and native cultures in Australia, India, Mexico, Peru, Africa, and Sri Lanka, as well as from the best of the innovative thinkers and scientists in the US. www.DrKeesha. com, www.healthyyouradio.com

Like many therapists and medical providers in the field of sex therapy, I work with clients who present with histories of trauma. When clients are dissociative and/or emotionally flooded, I’ve found that just identifying past trauma and talking about it does not engage the rich potential of the brain’s neuroplasticity. By using EMDR and Brainspotting, I am able to facilitate trauma release from little-accessed reservoirs of the subconscious mind, help clients make connections between past events and current experiences, and aid in generating new functional neural pathways in the brain.
