ABSTRACT

Israeli society, which formerly so absolutely and unanimously rejected Arab terrorism, international terrorism and terrorism in general, has been definitely shocked into a state of uncertainty. A comparison of the active engagement of factors within Israeli society endorsing Jewish-Israeli terrorism on the one hand, and Arab terrorism on the other, will reveal different patterns of attitude and behaviour. The Arab-Israeli conflict has its roots in the Arab-Jewish struggle for dominance of the same piece of land, the Land of Israel, or Palestine. The PLO and the Arab World can be proud of a number of significant achievements concerning the Palestinian struggle. Parliamentary and extra-parliamentary lobbying for Jewish terrorism has been closely related to the already prevailing mood within the public concerning the prospects for successful Jewish-Arab coexistence. A comparative study of Jewish terrorist activities in Palestine and later, in Israel, has revealed that the sources of support for the terrorists have basically remained the same.
