ABSTRACT

The chapter examines the challenges presented by changing migration patterns and the economic impact of trafficked persons in global supply chains, and deals with a discussion of the efficacy of United States domestic and foreign policy initiatives within a human rights framework. The Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (OMCTP's) protocols to address human slavery involve a multi-pronged approach: prevention of trafficking; protection of the victims; prosecution of the perpetrators; and development of civil society partnerships. The Trafficking Victim Protection Act established two agencies to facilitate coordination on anti-trafficking policy across US government offices: the President's Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking and the Senior Policy Operating Group. The President's Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking (PITF) is a cabinet level entity created by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. PITF comprises fourteen departments and agencies, across the federal government, responsible for coordinating US government-wide efforts to combat trafficking in persons.
