ABSTRACT

Standards and practices should be an integral part of all aspects of project and product life cycles as well as the end-to-end workflow of content. Standards help reduce the unknowns and provide stable platforms for developers, manufacturers, and integrators to assure a high degree of compatibility, user satisfaction, and business success. Of the many standards-setting organizations in the professional video field, the most familiar are: Advanced Television Systems Committee, The Association of Radio Industries and Businesses, Consumer Technology Association, Digital Video Broadcasting and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. It also includes: The Internet Engineering Task Force, International Standards Organization, Society of Cable and Telecommunications Engineers and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. Video Services Forum, Inc. was founded on October 7, 1998, to support uniform delivery of video services across the separate regional Bell operating companies after the Bellcore-sponsored organization, the Video Services Industry Forum, was disbanded.
