ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a general overview of entities whose activities affect the work of broadcast engineers. Entities are divided into five categories: Federal government, State and local government, Trade associations, Professional associations and Related broadcast-oriented organizations. The US Department of Agriculture Forest Service covers over 190 million acres of public land under the domain of the National Forest System. The Broadcasting Board of Governors is an independent federal agency that oversees all US civilian international media. The National Institute of Standards and Technology is a nonregulatory agency within the US Department of Commerce Technology Administration. The Bureau of Land Management, an agency within the US Department of the Interior, works to manage, maintain, and preserve public lands. The World Wide Web Consortium is an international consortium where member organizations, staff, and the public work together to create web standards. The chapter concludes with a list of broadcast engineering and related periodicals.
