ABSTRACT

This chapter describes at a macro level the differences between online and off-line graphic generation and at a micro level the differentiation between workflows in online graphic generation. It discusses in greater detail the hardware components of the render engine, as well as the software requirements to produce broadcast graphics. The chapter also discusses a few of the parameters that affect how a graphic looks and is rendered. It covers the technical aspects of designing and building augmented reality graphics and virtual sets, leveraging new technology while avoiding the pitfalls. When a graphic system is upstream, it is connected to a switcher or keying device upstream from the broadcast signal path. In addition to video clips, it is possible to create visually appealing graphics using still-frame images and the power of the character generators to animate those items in the composition.
