ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses modifying existing facilities to accommodate replacement equipment, to add auxiliary facilities, or to meet requirements for a channel change. In planning a television transmitter facility, it is beneficial to include a fully tunable mask filter in the transmitter radiofrequency (RF) system. Replacement of older transmitters and other RF system components may include the removal of the old components. The purpose of the construction permit (CP) is to establish a television transmitter facility's location, antenna height, antenna pattern, and effective radiated power (ERP). The CP issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) contains the authorized effective radiated power effective radiated power for the station. The FCC requires notifying hospitals and nursing/residential care facilities providing inpatient and residential care services that lie within the station's service contour at least 30 days in advance of commencing over the air broadcast for a new television transmitter facility.
