ABSTRACT

This chapter develops the concept of reality to illuminate the dynamics of the actor-world relation, when it works and when it does not. Pragmatic constructivism considers people as intentional actors. Actors improve the conditions under which they work by creating supportive constructions—tools, production facilities, organisation, controls, learning of skills, etc. The chapter outlines the reality construction by outlining concepts of actorship, reality construction, the dimensions of reality construction, multiple realities, construct causality, and finally the philosophical background. Leading by co-authoring enhances motivation and creativity because it makes the actors want to do the best they can. If the concept, the understanding, and the relational reality constructs are unrealistic and thus misleading, then life is a headwind for the actor. The communicative nucleus of integration is the ability to organise topoi around narratives that create roles and plots that in turn motivate the actors.
