ABSTRACT

The Singapore Art Archive Project (SAAP) is a work in progress first conceptualised in 1999 at the author home and only given its name in 2005 at p-10. As the term 'archive' usually refers to a place or institution and 'archives' would be the materials in its collection, the SAAP pretends/acts as an archive related to art in Singapore and its wider international connections. The Singapore Art Archive Project comprises over one million items. The strategy to curate and present the archives in different ways and themes will continue as long as possible. Older materials were collected through the old artists themselves and unexpected sources like antique shops, flea markets, secondhand bookstores, books sale, vacating buildings and garbage sites. The amount of materials on the older art history of Singapore grew; the task of preserving the materials became a serious concern for the author.
