ABSTRACT

This chapter is one of the most pivotal in the entire book. The concept of the moral premise is endemic in creative writing, but few if any writing experts ever describe how to actually create one. This chapter breaks down the idea of a moral premise, what moral means, how it relates to storytelling, and what factors are in play for creating a powerful moral component for any story. The three essential pieces of any moral component are described in detail: the moral blind spot, the immoral effect, and the dynamic moral tension. Any story, if it is a story and not a situation, will have these three elements working within the psyche of the protagonist. This moral component concept is so important that if it is missing or weak, then any story is doomed to fail as a story.
