ABSTRACT

After learning the importance of the moral component and the role it plays in making a story a story, this chapter helps to clarify the Enneagram-Story Connection. The Enneagram system also has built-in moral elements that relate to each of the nine core Enneagram styles. This connection between the moral component of any story and the Enneagram is critical for writers to understand, as it can help guide them to creating the best and most powerful moral flaw for their protagonists. In addition, the role of the moral component and the Enneagram are explained in the context of the narrative engine, that thing needed in any story to move story action forward. The moral component is that narrative engine in stories. This is illustrated by examining two flow charts: the Active Protagonist Loop and the Passive Protagonist Loop. Each flow chart illustrates what happens to a story when the moral component is missing or strong.
