ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the Enneagram system as it relates to creative writing. The Enneagram symbol is explained, its basic history is reviewed, and modern Enneagram applications outside of the creative writing field are reviewed to show that the system has a broad and relevant function in the world. In addition, the phenomenon of emotional intelligence is explained along with how the Enneagram relates to this important concept and why this is critical for creative writers to understand. A review is given of how writers have used the Enneagram in the past in contrast to the ideas presented in the book, as Rapid Story Development is a new application for the Enneagram that has not been used before.
