ABSTRACT

With my love of poetry, I use imagery, metaphor and non-linear, associative approximations toward truth in my narrative; a series of vignettes and stories about how and why I became a psychoanalyst. The themes of “hiding in plain sight,” “play, imagination and creativity,” and “developing my own voice” are central to my journey to solidify my identity as an analyst, and they inform the way I think about my clinical work with patients. I address how early influences, key mentors, becoming a poet, teaching, and parenting have all influenced my particular style and thinking as an analyst.
