ABSTRACT

This chapter examines a case study of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, exemplifies how to gain desired resources mainly through external paths, such as acquisitions, instead of developing them in-house, which is time consuming. Google, the biggest search engine in the world, was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin and is headquartered in Mountain View, California. The success of Google motivated the company to launch its initial public offering (IPO) in 2004. Just two years later, in 2006, Google announced the acquisition of YouTube. In 2015, the management has declared the formation of a holding company called 'Alphabet Inc'. Recently, Google has managed to increase its asset values to overtake one of its biggest competitors, Apple Inc., and, thus, has become one of the most financial-rich companies in the world. Google is mainly competing with other large digital business companies. In its website business, Google competes with Yahoo and the media corporation AOL.
