ABSTRACT

The digital world is changing what it means to be a teacher of reading in an information age. As the reading program shifts from print to digital resources, it makes new demands on what teachers need to know and be able to do, not to mention their habits of mind as educators. Grounded in e-book research and the early reading knowledge base, a four-part instructional frame work is proposed followed by a few first principles of primary grade digital teaching as a framework for change. An example is provided of how a foundational framework and first principles can take shape in the changing early childhood classroom.
