ABSTRACT

Operational reservists wear uniforms and serve with regular soldiers when they are on duty. The operational reserve on the other hand is trained and available to intervene first and foremost on the national territory and possibly on external operation (OPEX) to fulfil for instance, peacekeeping missions. The academic level intervenes a lot earlier than for instance the physical appearance of the social scientist in the relationship. For example, while negotiating the access to a regiment in a phone conversation, the first element mentioned in the oral presentation is usually the identity and the profession. The presentation of the researcher made by the military staff in front of the soldiers is as important as the researcher's behaviour. The relationship between the researcher and the military staff he or she is studying is determined by the researcher's social background, age, gender, academic level and military socialization.
