ABSTRACT

Introduction Offender risk and needs assessment (RNA) tools are routinely used by practitioners across the criminal justice system, including staff in corrections, probation, parole, pre-trial and communitybased settings. Some are developed by local jurisdictions (Ferguson, 2002; Young, Moline, Farrell & Biere, 2006), others are commercial tools used across jurisdictions, such as the Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R; Andrews & Bonta, 1995) or the Wisconsin Classification System (Baird, Heinz, & Bemus, 1979) for adults, and the Youth Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (YLS/CMI; Hoge & Andrews, 2002) or the Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth (SAVRY; Borum, Bartel, & Forth, 2006) for juveniles.
