ABSTRACT

The Multiplication Math Running Record is an assessment that looks at students' understanding of the basic multiplication facts. It is an assessment that is given with a specific protocol in a consistent manner, every time so that the data is valid across students. The first step in administering the Multiplication Math Running Record is introducing the student to the assessment. In the first part of the assessment, the teacher gives the student the benchmark problems and asks them to go through and state the answer to the problems. Benchmark problems are based on the different types of multiplication problems that students should be able to solve. In Part II, the teacher goes back to the problems on the sheet and asks further clarifying questions. Sometimes students will say one thing but actually do another. In Part III the teacher is trying to get a feel for the student's disposition.
