ABSTRACT

Humanitarian work psychology (HWP), as defined earlier in this book, concerns the synthesis of organizational, industrial, work, and other areas of psychology with deliberate and organized efforts to enhance human welfare. This chapter seeks to illuminate the transition process from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to note the current status of the new SDGs, and to highlight the role which feels HWP can and should play in both the implementation of the SDGs and the enhancement of the future global development agenda. The case studies presented in this chapter highlights the breadth of contribution HWP has made to the MDGs, in diverse yet connected areas such as health, education, and work. However, as the case studies demonstrate, humanitarian work psychologists have worked to both directly and indirectly apply the principles of I-O psychology across all areas of the MDGs.
