ABSTRACT
After a brief summary of our major findings, this final chapter discusses some of the conclusions presented in this book, and interprets these conclusions in a broader theoretical framework. Our review of earlier studies showed that during the last decades the coverage of ethnic and racial affairs in the Press, on both sides of the Atlantic, has gradually become less blatantly racist, but that stereotypes and the definition of minorities as a ‘problem’ or even as a ‘threat’ is still prevalent, in particular in the popular newspapers, while minority journalists, especially in Europe, continue to be discriminated against in hiring, promotion and news story assignments.
